The UK Betting and Gaming Council has welcomed the reappointment of Lisa Nandy as Secretary of State for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on July 21, 2026. The trade body also acknowledged John Healey’s appointment as Chancellor and outlined its priorities for the gambling sector.
According to the council’s official statement, the organization intends to maintain its ongoing cooperation with the DCMS. Nandy has previously acknowledged the regulated betting, gaming, and casino industry’s role in generating employment, attracting investment, and supporting economic growth across the UK.
Regulatory and Tax Priorities
The BGC noted that Chancellor Healey has historically supported the Grand National Charity Bet initiative. The council plans to collaborate with both government officials to establish a stable and internationally competitive tax and regulatory framework.
The organization emphasized that upcoming reforms under the Gambling Act Review must rely on documented evidence and prioritize consumer safeguards. The BGC stated that these measures are necessary to prevent players from moving toward the growing unregulated gambling market.
