Allwyn announced the inaugural recipients of its Player Protection Lab funding on July 31, 2026. The lottery-led gaming company allocated up to €100,000 to two selected research projects focused on player safety.
Research Focus and Funding Allocation
Allwyn’s Responsible Gaming Department reviewed proposals across three categories: digital innovation, behavioral messaging, and safety tool development. The department selected Dr Michael Auer and Newton University as the first grant recipients. Dr Auer, a psychologist and statistician, will examine how personalized communication influences gambling habits by combining live player metrics with self-reported data. His study will track changes in spending patterns, limit configuration, and session breaks. Newton University, a Czech educational institution, will create the Safe Gambling Assessment Tool (SGAT) to adapt responsible gaming metrics to Generation Z digital consumption patterns.The Player Protection Lab launched in September 2025 as a global program designed to finance independent academic work on responsible gaming. The initiative supports Allwyn’s eNective evidence-based research framework and expands data-driven methods for monitoring player behavior.
